About the Category S status — please read carefully:

This car carries a Category S marker, and I want to be completely transparent about what that means in this case. A low-speed impact to the offside rear quarter at approximately 20mph resulted in cosmetic damage that an insurer's chosen bodyshop quoted extravagantly to repair. The insurer — factoring in age and mileage rather than rarity — wrote it off. No structural damage was sustained. No chassis damage. This was confirmed by the repair centre that carried out the work.

The repair itself was completed by Dennis Autos of Aldridge, a specialist with over 15 years' of dedicated Alfa Romeo experience. Full photographic documentation of the repair process is available on request.

For further peace of mind, the car received a full service and health check at Autolusso Bournemouth in November 2025 — one of the UK's most respected Alfa specialists — where Laurance Preston described it as one of the best-maintained Breras he'd seen. The engine:

The 2.0 JTDM is the diesel engine that Alfa got right. Ask any Alfa specialist how it compares to the 1.9 or 2.4 JTDM and they'll tell you the same thing — this is the one to have.

Carefully driven throughout its life, never thrashed, kept under 2,500rpm, and fed exclusively on BP or Shell diesel. The cambelt and water pump were replaced at 98,000 miles.

The majority of miles are motorway, which has kept the engine silky smooth. At 140,300 miles it has barely reached the halfway point of its potential lifespan — 250,000 miles is entirely achievable, and well-documented examples have done it.
