This Lot will be sold at auction at Flight of Elegance; Farnborough on Saturday 16th May.Low-mileage exampleOffered from 30-year family ownershipThe Alfa Romeo Spider was produced for almost three decades from 1966 to 1993, with only minor aesthetic and mechanical changes to bring each model up to date. The Spider designation for the open top sports cars originates from the word speeder and a two-person open horse carriage. Styled by Pininfarina, the Spider is undoubtedly a classic design. The first glimpse of Alfas new convertible was at the 1961 Turin Motor Show, however, the combination of the economic challenges facing Italy, and the continuing success of existing models, meant that the first Spiders only began to emerge from the production line at the end of 1965. The Series 3 Spider made its debut in 1982 and was the first model to feature electronic fuel injection. The Series 3 Spider received a further styling revision in 1983, with the introduction of black rubber front and rear bumpers, and a small soft rubber spoiler added to the rear kamm tail.This 1989 example was purchased by our vendors brother in 1993 and has been well-maintained until he passed away in July 2024. Now offered by his family as a bereavement sale, theyre hoping to find a new owner that will take a similar level of care of the car. With a mileage of just under 33,000km (just over 21,000miles), the Spider has been scarcely used over the thirty years its been kept and this is visible in the condition of the interior, which is excellent.
