Group Assistant Accountant

Location: Northampton, Oxfordshire Border

Full Time, Permanent

Fully Office Based

Salary: Up to £35,000 + Study Support

25 holidays + bank holidays

SF Recruitment are currently working with a growing and successful business in Northampton who are looking to recruit a Group Assistant Accountant into their Group Finance team.

Job purpose:

The Group Assistant Accountant supports the Group Finance reporting team in the preparation of management accounts and the maintenance of accurate financial records, ledgers and reconciliations across Group entities. Working within the Group Finance shared-service function, the role provides reliable month-end, cashbook, reconciliation and audit support while developing broader accounting knowledge and capability across the Group.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist with month-end close and preparation of management account supporting schedules

- Prepare and post journals, accruals and prepayments

- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies

- Maintain accurate cashbook and bank postings

- Assist with daily cash reporting and maintenance of cash flow information

- Support intercompany reconciliations across multiple Group entities

- Provide information to support Group reporting and consolidation

- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for external audit

- Assist with finance process improvements and standardisation

- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure strong financial controls are followed

- Work across different entities and ledgers within the wider Group Finance function

- Support the integration of newly acquired businesses into Group Finance processes

The Ideal Candidate

- Studying AAT or Qualified xjnqpsq

- Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and core accounting principles

- Previous experience with journals, accruals and prepayments

- Confident completing full balance sheet reconciliations

- Exposure to month-end and management accounts would be advantageous

- Good Excel and finance systems experience

- Multi-entity or Group Finance experience would be beneficial

- NetSuite experience would be advantageous but is not essential

- Strong attention to detail with a methodical and organised approach

- Keen to learn, develop and take on further responsibility
