Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to support the finance team in delivering accurate, timely, and efficient financial processes. This role will be hands-on, supporting day-to-day accounting activities, reporting, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with processing purchase invoices, sales invoices, and expense claims accurately and promptly.

Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.

Support the preparation of management accounts and other financial reports as required.

Process credit notes, refunds, and supplier payments, ensuring proper approvals and documentation.

Assist with stock and inventory accounting, including reporting variances where required.

Maintain accurate accounts payable and receivable records.

Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including journals, accruals, and prepayments.

Liaise with internal teams (store managers, operations, and procurement) to resolve financial queries.

Assist in ensuring compliance with internal controls, policies, and statutory requirements.

Provide administrative support to the finance team, including filing, data entry, and system maintenance.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

AAT qualified or studying towards a finance/accounting qualification.

Strong numeracy and attention to detail.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.

Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Desirable:

Experience in a retail or multi-site environment.

Familiarity with ERP or accounting systems (e.g., Sage, Xero, SAP).

Basic knowledge of VAT, payroll, and statutory reporting.

Interest in career progression within finance and accounting.

Personal Attributes

Commercially aware and willing to learn.

Comfortable working in a fast-paced retail environment.

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to accuracy.
