Motorcycle Roller Starter Kit

Motorcycle roller starter DIY kit.

I've used this design to build a couple of roller starters for a couple of members of my local vintage motorcycle club, the design works well and just requires a basic frame and a motor to power it.

As you can see from the photos I have used good quality parts.

All parts in the photos are included.

Included in the kit is:

Two rubber v rollers glued and pinned to their shafts.

4 bearings for the rollers to run on.

8 nuts and bolts to secure the bearings.

2 drive sprockets to drive the rollers, 1 double sprocket and 1 single sprocket, keyed and tapered to the shafts.

Enough chain to drive the sprockets and enough to reach the drive motor.

2 chain split links.


1 motor drive gear. Pilot drilled ready to have a spline cut to suit your motor of choice.

Most local machine shops would be able to cut a spline to match your motor shaft.

I make my roller starters using a 12v starter motor to allow them to be portable although a 240v motor can be used.

I've tested mine on various bikes including a modern high compression single cylinder.

The kit is more than capable of taking the torque involved to start even the most stubborn bikes.

Theses rollers starters can really help out with difficult to start motorcycles and allow riders to continue to enjoy their vintage motorcycle.

This kit allows you to build your own rollers at a fraction of the cost.
