Description
A French Champlevé enamel inkwell from the 19th century, circa 1860-1890 created in the opulent Napoleon III style. Crafted from gilded bronze with finely detailed polychrome enamel in shades of turquoise, deep blue, red, yellow, and gold, the inkwell features a hinged lid and a scalloped base with Rococo-inspired curves. The Champlevé technique — in which enamel is applied into engraved recesses in the metal — results in a jewel-like surface full of intricate patterning and brilliant color.
