English Lessons

Description

Hi I'm Jess, I'm an experienced English tutor who has worked both privately, as a volunteer tutor and in conjunction with companies in the past. I tutor the Scottish National 5/Higher/Advanced Higher curriculum for English.

I have tutored for 10 years and taught over 60 individuals. On average the students I work with improve by two grades e.g. C to an A. Last year all the students I worked with got a As & Bs.

I specialise in dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and other forms of neurodivergence, but will happily take on students of all levels and ability.

I believe that every student requires an individual approach, and my first session is always dedicated to assessing the problems a student is facing, their strengths, and learning style. I then create tailored lesson plans around them.

The three main areas I focus on when tutoring are: knowledge and understanding, confidence building, and exam technique/time management. My aim as a tutor is not only to assist in getting the student a good grade, but also to equip them with transferable skills, that will help them in whatever choices they make after school.

I tutor online, and use various apps to aid my lessons, this has proven as effective as in person learning, arguably even more so.

I currently have availability Wednesday 4.30 - 7.30pm (there could be some potential flexibility outside of this).

I charge £35 per hour. I do not charge for out of lesson support or marking, and I am happy for students to contact me with any queries they have between lessons.

I send over a monthly invoice and student progress update to parents/guardians and I am happy to chat between these as well. I always inform students of what I will be discussing with their parent/guardian.

If I sound like a good fit, feel free to get in touch and we can arrange a free consultation.

Client references:

“Jess went above and beyond for my child, Jess is an intuitive and supportive tutor who continually listened and adapted to my child's needs” Keara M

“Jess really bonded with my child, and this allowed for them to feel comfortable in the lessons and be honest about what they were struggling with. From there their confidence grew and with it their grades. Cannot recommend Jess and their tutoring style enough!” Hazel M

Further client references and PVG certificate available on request.

Outside of tutoring I work in community food and do freelance communications and marketing support for third sector organisations.
