Motor-East And Lion City Rentals Plan 200 BYD Vehicles For PHV Drivers
Motor-East and Lion City Rentals plan to supply and deploy 200 BYD vehicles for Singapore private-hire drivers in 2026.

Motor-East and Lion City Rentals have signed a memorandum of understanding covering the planned supply and deployment of 200 BYD vehicles in 2026. Private-hire drivers in Singapore are among the intended beneficiaries.
Under the plan, Motor-East will handle vehicle supply and aftersales support, while Lion City Rentals will manage fleet operations. The proposed fleet will consist of fully electric cars and DM-i plug-in hybrids. The collaboration will also include driver familiarisation, servicing arrangements and aftersales support.
Two models highlighted are the BYD SEAL 6 DM-i sedan and the SEAL 6 Touring wagon. Both combine electric driving with petrol power, and the Touring has a boot capacity of up to 500 litres.
BYD recorded 11,184 new registrations in Singapore in 2025, about 21.2% of all new cars registered that year, based on LTA figures.
Singapore's Green Plan 2030 target is for all new car and taxi registrations to be cleaner-energy models from 2030.
