How to get your badge:
We’ve partnered with GBG Detected to securely perform these background checks. You just need a passport or driving license to verify your identity.
Step 1: Start on Gumtree
- Log in to your Gumtree business account.
- Go to your My Details page (you may also see a prompt on your “Manage My Ads” page).
- Click the Start verification button.
- Note: If you have already started, this button will say “Continue verification”.
- You will be securely redirected to the GBG Detected portal to complete the check.
Step 2: The Verification (GBG Detected) Portal
Once on the external portal, follow these steps:
- Email Verification: Enter your email address to receive a security code. Enter the code to proceed.
- Select your business type:
- If you are a Limited company, we require you to enter business information such as registered country, company name, and city. You can then select your company from the given results.
- Tip: entering your Company Number helps find and verify your business faster.
- If you are a sole trader, we ask you to enter your name and registered address, followed by your trading address.
- Tip: entering any additional information, such as VAT number, helps us verify your identity faster.
- If you are a Limited company, we require you to enter business information such as registered country, company name, and city. You can then select your company from the given results.
- Verification dashboard: You will now see a dashboard. You must complete all sections marked “Incomplete”, including:
- Authorised Representative/Directors: Enter details for Directors and/or business owners. If you are a sole trader, this will be you.
- Verification: Upload a clear photo of your ID and complete the selfie (liveness check) to prove you are the person on the ID.
- Note: The person required to complete the verification check will be the authorised representative/director declared above
- Submit: Once all modules are marked complete, click continue, and then “Submit Company”.
Step 3: Checking Your Status
After submission, your documents enter a review queue. You can check your progress at any time on the My Details page of your Gumtree account.
