Buying a used Toyota
The things you need to know
Frequently Asked Questions
The Toyota bZ4X is Toyota’s main used electric model. Toyota has a much stronger used hybrid footprint than pure EV supply, so hybrid models are usually more common than electric Toyota listings.
The average price of a used Toyota on Gumtree is around £8,800. Prices vary by model, age, mileage, fuel type and specification, with smaller models such as the Aygo and Yaris usually priced lower than SUVs, hybrids and newer electric models.
Toyota Priuses are generally not expensive to maintain compared with many used hybrid or premium cars, especially when serviced properly. Buyers should check hybrid battery health, service history, MOT records and any high-mileage taxi or private-hire usage.
The most affordable used Toyota models on Gumtree are usually smaller or older cars such as the Toyota Aygo, Yaris, Auris, older Corolla, older Prius and Previa models.
The Toyota Yaris, Corolla, Prius and RAV4 are among the most popular used Toyota models on Gumtree. Toyota is especially strong for buyers looking at reliable hybrid options.

How to find the best Toyota deals on Gumtree
To find the best Toyota deals on Gumtree, use filters to narrow your search by model, price, mileage, and location. Focus on popular models that offer strong value and availability. Check new listings frequently, as the best deals sell quickly, and look for private sellers who provide full details and maintenance history. Always verify the car’s MOT history and V5 registration document before committing.
Types of sellers you’ll find on Gumtree
Private sellers: Individuals selling their own Toyota; usually cheaper with no dealer fees and room for negotiation, though they offer no warranty.
Dealers / Trade Sellers: Includes independent sellers and official Toyota dealerships. Prices are typically higher, but they often provide extra protection, finance options, and added peace of mind.
Top things to check when buying a used Toyota
Check the MOT History: Use the free UK Government MOT Check service to look for passes, failures, and recurring advisories.
Review the Service History: Ensure the car has a documented history of regular maintenance and oil changes.
Buy a Full Vehicle History Report: Use services like HPI to check if the car has been written off, stolen, or has outstanding finance.
Can I finance a used Toyota?
Yes, you can finance a used Toyota to spread the cost into monthly payments. On Gumtree, you can explore finance options directly from listings via CarMoney. This allows you to compare deals and check eligibility without affecting your credit score.
