The USB and AUX ports for the Audi music plug-in device are located in the storage compartment under the center armrest and the front center console. Typically, cars are equipped with an in-car CD or USB slot. At this point, you can obtain power from the USB port. Generally, the USB port has a 5V output, but the current is not very large, which is sufficient for emergency use (approximately 500MA).

The Audi A3 cannot directly use USB to play music. This is because the Audi A3 only supports external audio, meaning the type of connector used for headphones. If you want to play songs via USB in the Audi A3, a simpler method is to directly connect a 3.5mm dual-connector audio cable and then press the CD button on the head unit to switch. Additionally, the speaker grilles on the car doors are made of platinum aluminum. Through anodizing technology and a streamlined appearance, laser technology is also used to engrave the Bang & Olufsen logo on them. Moreover, the soft light emitted by the embedded LED lighting system not only visually separates the platinum aluminum panel from the dark grille but also adds a unique white light bar to the BO sound system.

The USB port in the Audi A3 is typically located in the front centre console, either beneath the infotainment system or inside the storage compartment between the front seats. In newer models (2020 onwards), you may also find USB-C ports alongside or instead of traditional USB-A ports.

For precise location:

  1. Check the lower section of the dashboard, near the gear lever.
  2. Look inside the storage bin under the climate controls – some models have a retractable cover.
  3. In Sportback variants, additional ports might be in the rear for passengers.

If you’re unsure, consult the vehicle’s manual or check Audi’s online resources for your specific model year. The exact position can vary slightly depending on trim level and infotainment system (e.g., MMI or Audi Connect).

From a technician’s perspective: the USB port is integrated into the MMI (Multi Media Interface) hub. In most Audi A3s, it’s near the gearstick or inside the centre armrest. Post-2017 models often have dual ports – one for data (phone connectivity) and one for charging only. If missing, check for a loose connection or blown fuse (Fuse 41 in the passenger-side panel).
