Description
Picked this up last year as a fun project; got her running and through an MOT. Had some good rides, but it’s time to step up to a bigger bike. She’s carried her fair share of wear and tear from previous owners and still has a couple of technical quirks—but nothing that’d deter a tinkering enthusiast.
A2 Licence Compliant – With ~38 bhp (28 kW), she sits comfortably under the 35 kW A2 limit, requiring no restrictor—a rare find in this class.
Trusty & Accessible – The Virago 535 is celebrated for its smooth, low-end torque and easy-to-ride nature—ideal for newer riders.
Ultra-Low Seat Height & Lightweight – At just ~720 mm, she’s super approachable for shorter riders and tight spots. Handling is easy thanks to light weight and manageable dimensions.
Shaft Drive Reliability – The maintenance-free shaft drive spares you chain fuss and keeps things clean.
Vintage Value – A timeless design, dependable engine, and a cruiser feel make the XV535 a sought-after, budget-friendly option. A clean example could go for £2–3K.
Expect some vibration at higher speeds, especially through the handlebars.
A handful of known age-related issues exist—carb icing, regulator/rectifier corrosion, and potential high-mileage top-end wear.
The engine’s simple, vintage design lacks modern electronics—just analog dials and a reserve fuel switch.
Perfect Fit For:
Young riders with an A2 license who want a stylish, real-V-twin cruiser with personality.
DIY-minded folks looking for a quick flip or a satisfying weekend project.
Quick Highlights:
Licence: A2-compliant, no restriction needed
Engine: 535 cc V-twin, ~38 bhp
Seat Height: ~720 mm — accessibility bonus
Final Drive: Shaft drive—low maintenance & clean
Style & Value: Classic cruiser look, budget-friendly, solid resale potential
