This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Motorcycle Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025 on Sunday the 9th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. , Yamaha's TZ250 and TZ350 racers dominated the World Championship in the mid to late 1970s,They were desperate for a machine to compete against the Suzuki RG500 in the 500cc class,1980 marked the first appearance of a customer available 500cc race bike, the TZ500G,1982 saw the reverse cylinder TZ500J introduced, this would be the last of the factory 'over the counter' bikes produced by Yamaha,Tubular steel frame rather than a 'works' style aluminium version,This actual example was entered by Hong Leong Industries and raced by Fabian Looi during the 1980s, winning the Penang Grand Prix in 1983, 1986 and 1987,Australian rider, Brent Jones, rode the bike in 1988 and also won the Penang GP in that year,Purchased from its Australian owner, Peter Bell, in 1997 in 'as raced' condition needing restoration or serious recommissioning and then sold by him in 2015,Purchased then and restored by the late Steve Trinder to its current condition,Recently used by Yamaha for displays including the 60th Anniversary event at Donington Park,Forming part of a large private collection for last 5 years,Great opportunity to purchase a historic Yamaha TZ500J race bike with race winning provenance,
