Description
I’ve been a professional magician for over thirty years.
I began by incorporating magic into my work in schools. I’m a best-selling children’s author. As such, I’ve worked in tens of thousands of UK schools and have visited schools in four dozen countries worldwide. I use it to give a visual element to my presentations and an entertaining break in my workshops.
I now know about 5,000 tricks and have regularly performed in restaurants (close-up magic), at festivals, fairs and carnivals (outdoor crowd performances), children’s birthday parties (lively interactive and entertaining shows tailored for any or all ages), private parties and gatherings of all kinds (performing whatever magic seems most appropriate). I’ve done family shows and walk-around close-up magic in restaurants, pubs and clubs, community centres, libraries, etc., and have worked regularly with pre-school children, with people with special needs of all descriptions, in prisons, secure units, care homes, and other institutions. I also teach magic tricks whenever asked to do so, and am a skilled puppeteer.
In addition, I write books for adults, have recorded numerous albums of music as both lyricist and vocalist, and am a columnist and features writer for two UK journals (the music magazine RnR and the detectorist magazine Treasure Hunting).
I love my work. Entertaining people is a joy. So I don’t ask for a prohibitive fee. Also, that fee is always negotiable. For any work I do with children or the vulnerable, I’ve enhanced DBS and full liability insurance. None of my magic tricks involve fire or anything dangerous. For any bookings that require publicity, I can supply full colour posters.
I'm new to Bark (my first booking was on New Year's Eve). If you haven't done so already, please check out the excellent reviews I've so far received. Here are a few responses to my performances in schools and festivals:
Nick was not only a brilliant poet, but incredibly funny. The children really got his humour and absolutely loved the puppet! The poems appealed to all ages and were observant, humorous, and clever. Nick’s magic tricks were equally entertaining. I am still trying to figure out how he did them! When Nick visited each class, he only had a short time with them but, from the moment he walked in the room, he had the children eating out of the palm of his hand. He did something different with every class and the children all produced amazing poems themselves as a result. Throughout the day the whole school was buzzing with excitement!

I don’t think, in all the time that I’ve been here, that a visitor has been so well received or the ‘talk’ in the staff room so positive… Thank you for being so amenable and for being so entertaining. A real dynamo! The rhythm and the fun of your poetry just thrilled us all - from children to grizzly senior management!

A huge thanks from everyone at Rufford Park for visiting our school yesterday. I’ve never seen the children so captivated for a whole afternoon! My class are very excited about interviewing you for the school magazine and will be busy this weekend thinking up questions.

We had an amazing day with Nick yesterday, the school is still buzzing today! He was just the tonic that we needed and I have already had one poem read to me that a child did last night at home! It was great to see so many staff literally crying with laughter!

Nick was fantastic! I spoke with both the children and the staff and the response was the same: “He was brilliant and funny!” Nick had a fantastic manner with which he hooked in not only the children but also the staff. His magic tricks had our children engaged and in complete awe of him. His poems demonstrated excellent rhythm and rhyme which were linked to our children’s life experiences. Please do thank him for his time and for sharing his work.
