Gilbert and Sullivan Orchestral Selections –78 rpm Shellac Records

Description

This vintage 78 rpm record collection titled "Gilbert and Sullivan Orchestral Selections" features orchestral selections from various comic operas by the renowned Victorian-era partnership of Sir W.S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan, played by The Court Symphony Orchestra.

This collection of shellac 78 rpm records includes selections from the following operas that were released between 1878 and 1888:
H.M.S. Pinafore: 1878
The Pirates of Penzance: 1879
Iolanthe: 1882
The Mikado: 1885
The Yeomen of the Guard: 1888
Princess Ida: 1884
Patience: 1881

Note that "The Gondoliers" is not included.

This compilation of orchestral selections on the Columbia label would probably have been released in the early 20th century.

The records have been stored for around 40 years in paper sleeves within a hardback record folder in a closed box. They appear visually to be in a fair to good condition, just needing a good clean - please see the photos of some random records as a guide to their condition. Unfortunately, I no longer have a 78-rpm gramophone to play them on so I can’t be certain of how they sound.

It will be seen from the photos that the album booklet is in a poor condition with the spine coming away however could probably be restored.
