Description
Here we have for sale a vintage Henri Selmer Paris Radial 99 Bb trumpet manufactured in or around 1976. This is the extra large bore trumpet designated by the 99 stamp on the mouthpiece receiver which indicates 11.99 mm or .472 inch. The Radial range of trumpets were designed in collaboration with Maurice Andre and featured a valve block in which valves 1 and 3 were at a 2 degree angle to the upright 2nd valve, copying the natural angle of the fingers and improving dexterity by the ergonomics.
This model features a 1st slide trigger and a 3rd slide adjustable finger ring. It has traditional water keys on the main tuning slide and 3rd slide. As you may expect with this size bore, the sound is rich and dark and it has an easy open blow but also lights up in the upper register courtesy of the yellow brass bell. The trumpet is finished in gold lacquer, some of which is worn commensurate with age and use, but there are no dents, dinks or signs of repair.
The trumpet is supplied in a Bach/ Selmer Strad case dating I would guess from the 1980s but which is in good solid condition and both handles are sound as are the catches.
This is a good example of this iconic and increasingly hard to find trumpet which I have priced to sell at £800 which includes UK mainland postage although I would prefer collection or meet up to hand over to the new owner.
Thanks for looking.
