Description
TWO ANTIQUE FRENCH BRASS LADLES, HANGING DIPPERS, LOUCHES, RIVETED, ONE TIN COATED, 38cm long - 1800s FRENCH KITCHENALIA
WILL POST - I can post this for £4.50 if paid for by bank transfer (Note - we only accept payment in cash on collection or by bank transfer if delivery agreed - no PayPal, card, or courier payment).
Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!
We got these from a vide grenier in Vendeuvre sur Barse in the Champagne region and used them as decorative items hanging by an inglenook fireplace.
They’re a roughly matching pair of large brass ladles, one tin coated, that I’m advised they date to the mid 1800s.
Known as Louche or Dippers in French, they are quality items, copper riveted with patterned handles, and valuable to the owner who would continually repair or upgrade them with either lead or tin.
The one coated in tin was most probably done so as not to taint certain foods.
Now worn but still sound and bright they make a great decorative French Kitchenalia or fireside display.
In good sound antique condition with some wear, staining, and tarnishing, but no damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
In more or less as found condition, these have just had a thorough hand wash - I’m sure they would polish up well if so required.
The brass is quite thick and in good sound condition with wear and staining commensurate with age and use - see photos.
The bowls are worn and misshapen but sound.
They are fixed to the brass handles by copper rivets.
The joints are sound and secure.
The handles flex but are sound and secure at the rivets.
They are hooked to the end for hanging.
I can find no maker’s mark.
Measure approximately:
38-39 cm long, 14.5 cm diameter to the bowl, weigh about 900 g in total.
