SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School | Islington

Location: Islington, North London

Start Date: ASAP / October 2025

Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term

Salary: £95 – £110 per day (dependent on experience)

About the Role

Destination Education are seeking passionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join a vibrant and inclusive Primary School in Islington. This is a class-based role, supporting children with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Speech & Language Difficulties, and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

You’ll be working closely with class teachers and the SENCO to deliver high-quality support within the classroom, helping pupils access the curriculum and develop essential life and learning skills. The school has a strong reputation for inclusion and a warm, supportive staff culture — making it an excellent environment for both professional growth and personal fulfilment. As a valued member of the team, you’ll be helping to create a calm and engaging learning space where every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN within the classroom

Adapt learning activities and materials to suit individual needs

Implement strategies from EHCPs (Education, Health & Care Plans)

Support the teacher in managing behaviour using positive reinforcement techniques

Encourage independence, communication, and social skills through structured activities

Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals such as therapists and educational psychologists

Promote inclusion and emotional well-being across the school communityThe Ideal Candidate

Experience supporting children with SEN, ideally within a school setting

Calm, patient, and adaptable approach to learning and behaviour

Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Passion for making a difference in children’s education and development

Relevant qualifications or training (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, Team Teach, PECS, or Makaton) are desirable but not essentialWhy Destination Education?
