Position: SEND/SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary School, Wigan

Start Date: September 2025

Contract: Full-time, Temporary (with potential to become permanent)

Teaching Personnel are working with a supportive and inclusive primary school in Wigan who are seeking a committed SEND/SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role will involve supporting pupils with additional needs, particularly those with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties, as well as children with a range of special educational needs.

You will be working closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to ensure pupils can access learning and develop their confidence in a safe, nurturing environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or relevant school-based experience).

Previous experience working with children with SEND, SEMH, or behavioural needs.

A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to supporting pupils.

The ability to implement strategies that encourage positive behaviour and engagement.

A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices.
