SEND Classroom Assistant

Leader Education are recruiting a SEND Learning Support Assistant to work at a small Secondary school based in Sunderland. This school caters for young people aged 11 to 19 years old who may have Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and/or Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). The ideal candidate will have some experience working alongside children with SEND in an educational environment and have a true passion for supporting vulnerable children.

This schools most recent Ofsted report was presented as "Good" as it continues to be a warm and welcoming special academy with a high focus on aiming to meet the individual needs of all students and families.

The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:00pm and is a long-term position given a successful trial.

The successful candidate will have:

An enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

The ability to support the pupil accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities

A knowledgeable understanding of the different types of Special, Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) some children are faced with

A compassionate personality and values honesty, inclusivity and respect

Experience working with children in an educational setting is desirable but not essential
