Position: Teaching Assistant

Contract Type: Full-Time

Herdley Bank School is a specialist SEN school based in Haltwhistle, Northumberland, dedicated to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for pupils with a range of additional needs, including SEMH and complex behaviours.

We are looking for a caring and reliable Teaching Assistant to join our committed team. This role involves supporting pupils both academically and emotionally, often on a 1:1 basis, to help them reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 or group support to pupils with SEN, including SEMH needs

Assist teaching staff in delivering personalised learning and behaviour support

Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours with positive strategies

Support pupils' emotional well-being and social development

Maintain accurate records and contribute to planning and reviews

Collaborate with the wider school team and external professionals

About You:

Experience working with children with SEN and challenging behaviours is desirable

Patient, calm, and empathetic approach

Good communication and teamwork skills

Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support are a plus

Willingness to undertake Team Teach or similar behaviour management training (training available)
