The Role
Join a warm, welcoming primary special school that provides outstanding support for children aged 3 to 11 with a range of severe and complex learning difficulties, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The school prides itself on delivering tailored education and care within a nurturing environment that enables every child to thrive.
We are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant to join a warm, supportive team focused on helping children with SEN thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This role offers the chance to make a real, lasting impact on children’s lives through one-on-one and small group support.
Key Responsibilities
Provide tailored, consistent support to children with diverse SEN, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and learning disabilities.
Assist teaching staff in planning and delivering engaging, personalised learning activities.
Support children during lessons, breaks, and extracurricular activities to ensure a safe and inclusive environment.
Foster positive relationships with pupils to build their confidence, independence, and social skills.
Help manage behavioural challenges with empathy and positive reinforcement techniques.
Collaborate closely with teachers, SENCO, and other professionals to adapt resources and strategies.
Assist with record-keeping and progress monitoring to track pupil development.
What We’re Looking For
Experience working in an SEN setting (either as a TA/LSA or in a similar support role) — essential.
Genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
Understanding of different SEN conditions and relevant teaching/support strategies.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with pupils and staff.
Patience, resilience, and a positive, proactive attitude.
Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to undergo).
