Elmtree Learning Partnership is a multi-site Alternative Education Provision service, serving primary and secondary-aged pupils with EHCPs relating mainly to ASC, SEMH with their main headquarters based in Weston Super Mare. They operate a ‘revolving-door’ offering whereby students stay at the provision for up to 18 weeks, either on a full-time or part-time basis before returning to mainstream education or attending a special school. Student places are funded by local school or local authority referral. We are currently recruiting for their new site which will be run in partnership with a well-established local independent education provider. The new site will be based in the Failand area of Bristol and will support learners focusing on GCSE and entry A Level (AS level) exams. The site will also offer additional vocational study options including outdoor learning, construction, computing and other extra-curricular subjects as a main study focus, according to the learners' ability/interest.
The role of the academic mentor will be supporting students that have an EHCP and generally have good academic attainment however may struggle in a particular subject area, or with particular tasks. The focus for the academic mentor will be to offer intensive intervention on the learners' key area of weakness. It's anticipated that the general profile of learner attending will mostly need encouragement & academic support more than emotional support. Equally it's important to monitor, empathise and support & guide pastorally as well. The role will require someone who themselves is more academically orientated and able to offer capacity to support with any subject.
Applicants with previous experience of having worked with and supported learners with additional needs relating to SEMH & trauma who may have other needs relating to ASC / ASD may be best suited to this role, provided they meet the ability to support learning to the required standard.
It would be great to hear from you:
Are passionate about supporting young people to achieve their full potential in education
Have a good understanding of what makes an effective intervention strategy
Are committed to safeguarding young people and helping them overcome difficulties
Are committed to ensuring students maximise every opportunity to achieve academically and personally
Have a good standard of personal education background
Have a positive & pro-active nature
Are able to work autonomously as part of a wider team
The role is intended to transfer to a permanent contract upon successful completion of the trial period (60 paid days.) This is a great opportunity for anyone looking for a role which offers training opportunities and to be part of a supportive organisation which has further local expansion plans in the near future.
Elementa is the recruiting partner therefore applicants being considered for the role after pre-screening may be required to complete the registration process for Elementa. This includes full vetting & background checks, satisfactory referencing and application for a DBS Enhanced Disclosure (which may be chargeable at £64.10) unless you have a current DBS on the update service.
