SEN Teaching Assistant

Job title – SEN Teaching Assistant

Location - Preston

Pay rates - £85 - £110 per day (depending on experience)

Length of contract – 3-6 months

Role Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated compassionate, and enthusiastic Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. Voluntary or personal experience with children is valued however enthusiasm and commitment matter most. In this role, you will work closely with pupils who have a range of additional needs, helping them to access the curriculum, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential.

Duties/roles:

Work closely with individual pupils or small groups with SEN, including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, or physical disabilities.

Assist the class teacher in implementing learning activities and adapting materials to meet individual needs.

Promote inclusion and encourage social interaction among pupils.

Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to implement individual education plans (IEPs).

Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Person specification:

Whether you have a Level 2 or 3 qualification or are just starting out, we welcome you to apply.

Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges or

Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or

Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools.

Experience working in a mainstream or special school setting.

Training in specific SEN strategies (e.g. Makaton, PECS, Team Teach).

Experience supporting children with complex needs or EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans).

Good literacy and numeracy skills – evidenced by GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grades 9–4 (A–C).

Essential requirements:

Enhanced DBS check.

Right to work in the UK.

Provide references of previous employment.

Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable).
