SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: York, North Yorkshire

Start Date: September 2025

Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only

Salary: £23124 – £27258 per annum

Are you passionate about supporting young people with special educational needs? Do you have experience working with children who require additional support in the classroom?

GSL Education is currently seeking a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and welcoming secondary school in York from September. This full-time role is ideal for someone with experience working with SEN pupils, who is ready to make a meaningful difference in a school setting.

About the Role as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant:

Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, and SEMH.

Working 1:1 and in small groups to help pupils access the curriculum.

Adapting resources and using strategies that meet individual needs.

Building positive, consistent relationships with students.

Assisting class teachers with behaviour management and lesson delivery.

The Ideal Special Needs Teaching Assistant Will:

Have prior experience working with children or young people with SEN.

Be calm, patient, and nurturing in their approach.

Be confident in supporting pupils with a variety of learning and behavioural needs.

Be proactive and able to work well within a team.

Have a good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.

Hold GCSEs in English and Maths and a relevant qualification.
