Description
SEMH Learning Support Assistant – Chelmsford – £90 to £130/day – September Start
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? Do you have the patience, empathy, and resilience to support learners with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are looking for a dedicated SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive post-16 college in Chelmsford this September.
This role is set within a further education environment, working with students aged 16+ as they prepare for the next stages of their lives – whether that’s further study, apprenticeships, or entering the workplace. You’ll play a vital role in helping learners overcome barriers, develop life skills, and grow in confidence.
The Role:
Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to learners with SEMH needs, adapting strategies to meet individual requirements.
Support students both inside and outside of the classroom, helping them stay engaged, focused, and motivated.
Work closely with tutors, support staff, and the SENCO to implement personalised learning plans and behaviour strategies.
Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and positive social interaction.
Actively contribute to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
About You:
Experience working with young people who have SEMH or additional needs (college, school, or youth work setting) is highly desirable.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport quickly.
Patient, adaptable, and able to think on your feet in a fast-paced environment.
A team player with a genuine passion for inclusive education and student well-being.
What’s on Offer:
Pay Rate: £90–£130 per day (dependent on experience)
A supportive and forward-thinking college environment with a strong community ethos.
Ongoing training and CPD opportunities to develop your skills.
The chance to work with inspiring young people and help shape their futures.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that the successful applicant must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
