Pastoral Teaching Assistant

Location: Westminster, W2 (Commutable from Paddington, Marylebone, Maida Vale, Bayswater, Kensington)

Pay: £95-£115 per day

Contract: Long-term to permanent

Start Date: September 2025

Do you have the skills to build trust with students while also supporting their learning in the classroom?

Long Term Futures are working with an inclusive secondary school in Westminster to recruit a Pastoral Teaching Assistant. This role is ideal for someone who is interested in combining pastoral mentoring with academic support, helping students overcome barriers to learning both inside and outside of lessons.

The Role

Providing pastoral support for students who may be experiencing difficulties with behaviour, attendance, or social/emotional challenges

Working with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to encourage engagement and resilience

Assisting in classrooms as a Teaching Assistant, ensuring pupils can access learning effectively

Implementing behaviour management strategies that are calm, consistent, and restorative

Supporting progress monitoring and contributing to individual learning or support plans

Liaising with teachers, pastoral leads, and parents to provide joined-up support

Ideal Candidate Profile

Experience working with young people in either a pastoral, mentoring, or classroom capacity

Strong understanding of behaviour management and the ability to de-escalate situations calmly

Ability to balance emotional support with high expectations for learning

A proactive and empathetic approach to working with teenagers

Excellent communication and teamwork skills
