Learning Support Assistant – Secondary SEMH School

Eastleigh, Hampshire

£13.75 per hour | Term Time Only (39 weeks per year)

Are you passionate about supporting young people who face social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges? We’re looking for a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a dedicated team at a specialist secondary SEMH school in the Eastleigh area.

This is a rewarding role where you’ll help students aged 11–16 who may struggle in mainstream education due to behavioural, emotional, or mental health needs. As an LSA, you’ll play a vital part in helping pupils engage with learning, develop resilience, and build positive relationships.

Role Responsibilities:

Provide in-class and 1:1 support for students with SEMH needs.

Help implement tailored learning and behaviour plans.

Promote emotional regulation, social skills, and self-confidence.

Support students during transitions, break times, and off-site activities.

Work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and pastoral teams.

About the Students:

Pupils may present with:

Anxiety, low mood or depression

Behavioural difficulties linked to trauma or unmet needs

Conditions like ADHD, ASD, or ODD

Difficulties with emotional regulation and social interaction

You’ll need patience, understanding, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Ideal Candidate:

Experience working with young people with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs (preferred)

Strong communication and relationship-building skills

Positive, non-judgemental, and proactive approach

Resilience, adaptability, and a genuine desire to support vulnerable learners

Enhanced DBS or willingness to obtain one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
