English Specialist HLTA – Secondary School Barnet September 2025 Start

Are you an experienced HLTA with a passion for English and a talent for supporting student learning at a high level?

Are you ready to take on a rewarding role in a thriving secondary school in Barnet?

Tradewind Recruitment is currently working with a high–achieving and inclusive secondary school in Barnet that is seeking a confident, knowledgeable, and motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a specialism in English. This is a full–time, long–term opportunity starting in September 2025, ideal for someone ready to take a lead in supporting English teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4.

About the Role:

As an English Specialist HLTA, you will:

Deliver small–group and one–to–one English interventions to raise literacy levels.

Plan and lead learning activities under the direction of teaching staff.

Support students with varied ability levels, including those with EAL or SEN needs.

Contribute to the English department by preparing resources and offering targeted academic support.

Support in–class learning and occasionally provide cover for short–term teacher absences.

Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to teachers and students.

What We're Looking For:

HLTA qualification, equivalent experience working at HLTA level or experience leading KS3/KS4 English interventions.

Strong subject knowledge and passion for English Language and Literature.

Excellent communication, literacy, and organisational skills.

Confidence delivering interventions and supporting students independently.

Previous experience in a secondary school setting is highly desirable.

GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above); A Level or degree in English is advantageous.
