Job Title: Education Welfare Officer
Location: London Borough of Merton
Contract: 3–Month Ongoing Contract
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am 4:30pm
About the Role:
The London Borough of Merton is seeking a dedicated Education Welfare Officer (EWO) to join our team on a 3–month ongoing contract. You will work across up to 10 schools, supporting children, families, and schools to improve attendance and ensure every child receives access to education.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as the named EWO for up to 10 schools within the borough.
Undertake casework relating to school absence and persistent non–attendance.
Attend meetings in schools to address attendance concerns.
Provide advice, guidance, and practical support to schools on attendance matters.
Meet with parents and children to encourage and support improved school attendance.
Carry out Children Missing Education (CME) work.
About You:
Experience working with children, families, and schools to address attendance issues.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
Knowledge of attendance legislation, safeguarding, and CME responsibilities.
Ability to manage a varied caseload and work collaboratively with school staff and external partners.
Contract Details:
Duration: 3–month ongoing contract
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am 4:30pm
