Are you a graduate looking to build a career in Speech & Language Therapy, Clinical Psychology, or Occupational Therapy? This Autism Support Worker role is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a specialist school setting while making a meaningful impact on the lives of children with autism and communication difficulties.
Milk Education is recruiting on behalf of a school in Chester that provides individualised education and therapy for children aged 4-16 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language delays, and additional learning needs. The school follows a structured approach to learning, incorporating personal care, feeding support, sensory integration, and tailored therapies to help pupils develop essential life skills.
About the Role:
As an Autism Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with autism and communication challenges, working closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to create a safe and nurturing learning environment. This role is ideal for graduates looking to develop a deep understanding of neurodiversity and therapeutic interventions before progressing into careers such as Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Clinical Psychology.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Assisting with personal care and feeding, ensuring pupils' well-being and comfort throughout the school day.
* Supporting the class teacher in delivering structured lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
* Using speech and language strategies to promote communication and engagement.
* Encouraging sensory and social development through interactive activities.
* Managing behaviour using positive reinforcement and autism-specific strategies.
* Accompanying pupils on school trips and outings, helping to expand their learning experiences beyond the classroom.
* Working closely with therapists to implement personalised learning and therapy plans.
What We’re Looking For:
* Graduates with a degree in Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Health & Social Care, or related fields.
* Experience working with children or adults with learning disabilities, autism, or communication needs (voluntary or paid experience is welcomed).
* A compassionate and patient approach, with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
* Comfortable providing personal care and feeding support as part of a nurturing approach to learning.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and therapists.
* GCSEs in Maths & English (Grade C and above).
Full education and training provided.
Why Choose This LSA Role?
* Gain essential hands-on experience before pursuing further study or careers in Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Clinical Psychology.
* Work in a highly supportive school environment, collaborating with expert therapists and educators.
* Develop key skills in communication, sensory integration, behaviour management, and therapy-based education.
* Make a real impact by helping children with autism and communication difficulties reach their full potential.
