Description
2009 Subaru Justy – 78k miles – LEZ compliant – £750 – Oxgangs, Edinburgh
For sale is our family Subaru Justy. “Your what?!” I know. I hadn’t heard of one either until we bought it. Think Subaru’s version of a Fiat 500 – small, economical, quirky.
I’ll be straight about it: the price is low for good reasons listed below. Offers are welcome, but I’m not dealing with scammers or timewasters. You’re very welcome to view and test drive it at my dad’s house on Oxgangs Rd (the posh bit). I live about 4 hours north-west, so you’ll likely meet my dad or step-mum. They’re nice folk, a bit eccentric in a good way.
Good points
LEZ friendly thanks to the tiny petrol engine
Low mileage at 78,000
ISOFIX
MOT until 4 November 2025
Radio, heater blower, reverse sensors all working
Looks tidy for the year – no major dents, clean inside and out
Not a rot-box. Some mild corrosion noted over the years but nothing dramatic
Recent work: new rear brakes, exhaust repaired (not replaced), plus other MOT jobs last year
Excellent fuel economy – very cheap to run
Already cheap to buy, and haggling is encouraged
Quirks and faults (read this bit)
Clutch bites quite high and the throttle is sensitive, so it can sound a bit noisy when you pull away until you get used to it.
Power steering: it works, but only if you start the car while turning the wheel firmly to the left. If you start with the wheel straight, the power steering light comes on and it won’t engage until you restart with the trick. Once started properly, it has never cut out on us in around 6,000 miles. A Subaru mechanic has told us it’s very unlikely to fail mid-journey. We didn’t get it fixed because we were moving on to a bigger car and it was awkward to get it to a garage from where we live.
Warning lights:
ABS light is on. A pal with a scanner says it’s likely just a cheap wheel sensor.
Engine management light comes and goes. Garage said it points to the second O2 sensor on the exhaust. Light cleared, then returned intermittently – likely wiring or the sensor itself. Car drives fine.
Price and contact
All of that will put some people off, which is fair. That’s why it’s £750. Ideal as a cheap runabout, first car, or project for someone handy.
