Among the many voices our pupils have heard this year, few have left such a lasting impression as Andrew Patterson’s. Andrew’s story is not one of easy victories, but of extraordinary courage. Once an international cricketer and now an inspiring professional speaker, he shared with our children how resilience is forged not in moments of success, but in the quiet determination to keep going when life takes an unexpected turn. Living with a serious medical condition, Andrew spoke with remarkable honesty, humility and hope. He reminded us that true strength is not measured by what we achieve, but by the character we show when faced with adversity. His message resonated deeply with pupils and parents alike: setbacks do not define us—our response to them does. In a world that can sometimes feel relentless, Andrew offered something every young person needs: permission to be vulnerable, encouragement to persevere, and confidence that challenges can become the very foundation of a meaningful life. His words were uplifting, authentic and unforgettable, and we are immensely grateful for the inspiration he brought to our Rose Hill community.

I would like to give a five-star review for Andrew Patterson, who delivered a first-rate motivational session at a recent development planning day for Orchard Hill College. Andrew’s session was highly engaging from start to finish, striking exactly the right balance between inspiration and practical insight. We worked with Andrew in 2025 as part of our whole school ‘Innovation Week’. Andrew spoke to staff, pupils and parents about the important of resilience in life. He told his story and the message was relatable, passionate and emotive. The feedback from everyone was incredible and I have since recommended Andrew to speak at a conference with another 40 school leaders; I cannot recommend him highly enough. Andrew has also stayed in contact since his visit and on top of being an incredible speaker he is a simply wonderful, kind, generous and genuine human being.
