Vintage Mission 763 Floorstanding Speakers. Refurbished and upgraded
Brighton, East Sussex
£260
Description
Stunning sounding Mission speakers from the late 1980s with refurbished woofers and upgraded crossovers.
The 763 was the middle model in the 76X range introduced in 1989.
These were in good condition but sounding decidedly off-colour when I bought them; all midrange, lacking bass and weak muddy treble. The lack of bass was tracked down to hard, perished rubber on the woofers, so I have fitted new supple rubber surrounds. The crossover was re-capped using high end HVL metalised polypropylene capacitors and.... holy moly! they sound incredible, absolutely transformed. Super transparent and detailed, great dynamics and proper clean, deep bass. These are up there with Mission's very best designs. I want to keep them, but I have too many.
Description
The smallest of Mission's bi-wirable, floor-standing systems, the 763 builds on the reputation of one of Hi-Fi's true legends, the Mission 770.
Using the latest version of that speaker's 200mm polypropylene bass unit, Mission exploits the driver's full potential by pairing it with the fabric dome ferry-fluid cooled tweeter of the 762 in a superbly crafted, resonance-controlled cabinet of elegant styling and proportion.
The 763, with its high sensitivity, broad bandwidth and spectacular soundstage, is a cost-effective way of filling rooms of ample dimension, while requiring an amplifier of only medium power.
