MERITUS are recuriting for a Digital Hardware Design Leader to join our client in Stevenage on an initial 12 month deal to support upcoming major defence projects.

DIGITAL HARDWARE DESIGN LEADER - INSIDE IR35 - 80 PER HOUR - 12 MONTHS - STEVENAGE, HERTFORDSHIRE - SINGEL STAGE INTERVIEW PROCESS

An anonymous client is seeking a Digital Hardware Design Leader to drive the design and development of advanced high-speed digital hardware solutions. This leadership role will focus on FPGA, MPSoC, and AI-based platforms for applications in SDR, radar signal processing, and sensor fusion, guiding multidisciplinary teams across the full product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead digital hardware design activities from specification through to delivery, ensuring alignment with system and customer requirements.

Define hardware architectures and oversee detailed design of FPGA, DDR/Flash memory, and high-speed interconnect solutions.

Provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams (systems, software, firmware, mechanical, and production).

Drive best practices in signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) analysis.

Support design validation and board-level debug using VHDL, C, C++, or Python.

Apply DSP knowledge to SDR, radar, and optical sensor applications.

Set high standards for design documentation, configuration control, and quality.

Mentor and develop junior engineers, promoting collaboration and innovation.

Requirements:

Significant experience in high-speed digital electronics design and leadership.

Expertise with MPSoC FPGA, DDR/Flash memory, and high-speed serial interconnects.

Strong background in SI/PI analysis and digital design validation.

Proficiency in VHDL and at least one programming language (C, C++, Python).

Understanding of DSP concepts for SDR, radar, or sensor technologies.

Strong academic and technical foundation with proven ability to deliver complex projects.

Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.

Additional Info:

Reports into the Technical Architect/Programme Lead.

Role has strategic input as well as hands-on technical ownership.
