Description

Purchasing Assistant

Kingswear, Devon

Are you a friendly multitasker with strong organisational skills? Want to increase your marine expertise working in a beautiful location on the South West’s coastline? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

Who am I working for?

Darthaven Marina is located in the stunning South Hams countryside, surrounded by rolling hills and in a truly tranquil setting. Our impressive 270 berth marina has grown over the past 30 years, and we continue to pride ourselves on the first-class service we provide to our berth holders, visitors and customers.

At Darthaven, we are proud of the range of services we offer. These include our large on-site Chandlery, our busy Parts Counter and our technical services teams of Engineers, Electricians and Shipwrights.

Now we’re looking for a Purchasing Assistant to support our Parts, Purchasing & Chandlery Manager on a full-time basis and deliver a high-quality service within our team.

We are looking for the successful candidate to start as soon as possible.

What are the benefits?

- Salary of £30,000 to £32,000 per annum (full-time), dependent on experience

- Generous holiday entitlement

- Pension

- Branded company clothing

- Stunning work location, based a stone’s throw from the Marina

- On-site parking

- Comprehensive training

- Increase your specialist knowledge and understanding of the marine sector

- Support the success of one of the South West’s gems

What will I be doing?

As a Purchasing Assistant, you’ll be researching, sourcing and ordering marine and general equipment and consumables; providing essential, professional support to enable the smooth running of our retail spaces and our technical services teams.

Reporting to the Parts, Purchasing & Chandlery Manager, you will be responsible for:

- Purchase Order Processing – processing accurate purchase orders from stock reports or by request from a member of our technical services team

- Purchase Order maintenance – regularly reviewing and maintaining our live purchase orders

- Stock Replenishment – working with the Parts, Purchasing & Chandlery Manager to purchase stock and help maintain appropriate stock levels

- Monitoring and promptly responding to all communications in relation to orders, including personal email, the generic ‘orders@’ email and telephone enquiries

- Assisting with stock takes on a rolling and annual basis

- Working alongside our finance team to resolve purchase order and purchase ledger queries

- Providing assistance and support to our Parts, Purchasing & Chandlery Manager as required

- Providing support to the Chandlery team to handle over the counter sales during busy periods or to cover for leave or sickness absence

- Maintaining an enthusiastic, helpful and knowledgeable attitude whilst interacting with both internal and external customers

The role primarily operates in an office setting, with occasional requirements to attend the marina itself, so it will involve some exposure to outdoor conditions. Health and safety guidelines, including proper use of PPE, must be followed at all times. The role will also involve some physical activities related to manual handling, for which training will be given.

What do I need?

To join us as a Purchasing Assistant, you’ll need:

- Previous experience in purchasing, procurement or related roles (preferred but not essential)

- Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in relevant software, such as Sage 200 and Microsoft Office

- Good communication and customer service skills (both written and verbal), and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and suppliers

- The ability to prioritise (with assistance where necessary) and meet deadlines in a sometimes fast-paced environment

- Knowledge of stock control systems

- Prior knowledge of marine parts and chandlery operations (this is a bonus but not a requirement)

- The ability to work well within a team setting

- A current full UK driving licence

Previous experience with Purchase Order Processing would be beneficial to your application.

We’re eager to hear from you if you’ve worked as a Procurement Assistant, Buying Assistant, Buyer, Procurement Executive, Purchasing Executive, Marine Purchasing Assistant, or Maritime Purchasing Assistant.

This role is based on a 40-hour week, working 8:30am - 5pm, Monday to Friday. Some weekend and bank holiday working will also be required.

Webrecruit and Darthaven Marina are equal opportunities employers, value diversity and are strongly committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all employees and all applicants for employment. Equal opportunities are the only acceptable way to conduct business and we believe that the more inclusive our environments are, the better our work will be.
