Dual CS 505-2 in excellent cosmetic condition, working but needs service REDUCED

Description

Mid 80's version of the classic Dual 505, and probably the most popular. The turntable is semi-automatic operation (move arm to start motor, manually cue arm to play record, arm raises at the end of a side and lifts stopping the motor).

Cosmetically this turntable is in excellent condition, the dust cover is remarkable for having only the fewest and lightest of marks, looking virtually new from a short distance which considering its forty years age is remarkable.

I am selling it because although it is working, there is a delay between moving the arm across to play, and the motor starting. I believe I know what this is but I do not have the eyesight, steady hand or patience to service the area required. It is not the motor, the motor runs fine (although there is a spare included), I believe the area that needs attention is the assembly just before the microswitch - some small levers are not moving freely as they should because the original factory grease has thickened up making them difficult to move by the small forces involved. The service solution would be to remove these parts, give them a really good clean and reassemble with a very small amount of light oil (ie such as was used in sewing machines etc.).

Other than that the turntable has the engaging, 'live' and broad soundstage that these decks are know for (and partly associated with being a suspended deck not a solid plinth as is the modern way now). If you feel this is a task you are happy to undertake then this would be a bargain for you - Equally its is worth this much for the many good condition parts that could be obtained from it, though it would be a pity to not keep it going, it's a great design and possibly a piece of hi-fi history!

Both belts have been replaced recently by myself (Thakker brand drive and speed pitch control belts) and gold plated phono plugs were fitted professionally some time ago. The cartridge is Dual’s Ortofon OM10 equivalent and the stylus is a replacement (non Ortofon but easy to replace or upgrade).

If it is of interest I also have a suitable cartridge upgrade for this turntable which I will be selling on eBay when this turntable is sold - a Shure M97xE Audiophile cartridge with very little use that was previously fitted to this turntable. The characteristics and specification of this cartridge make it a definite and noticeable upgrade, it is well suited to the low-mass aluminium tonearm of the CS 505 and is currently attached to a spare Dual head shell to make swapping over easy.

Included with the turntable are; Griffin Acoustic Turntable Mat (in place on the turntable), original solid rubber Dual turntable mat, Dual branded large centre hole 7" adapter, additional counterweight for tonearm (for balancing heavier cartridges) and a spare motor.
Previously listed at £60, it is now reduced to £50 to hopefully save it from the recycling centre...
