Description
LARGE VINTAGE WILLY GUHL CEMENT CONCRETE PLANTER, TILTING, FOOTED, 80cm diameter - FRENCH MID CENTURY BETON BRUT - REDUCED !
Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!
Part of our collection of mid century planters, we got this at a vide maison at Troyes, Champagne, where it had apparently been used on a terrace since the 1970s.
It’s a large Willy Guhl bowl, or vasque, tilting planter that is well aged with some attractive weathering, patina, and moss, on its surfaces.
Guhl was one of the first industrial designers in Switzerland and first made his mark by experimenting with new materials and creating pieces in simple yet elegant forms.
In 1951 he was commissioned to create a line of attractive and durable planters using fibre concrete or fibre cement which enabled numerous shaped designs.
In very good sound condition with wear and knocks consistent with its age and use - please see photos for condition.
Nicely aged with peeling/peeled paint and an attractive patina with a good coating of moss and lichen formed.
Solid and sound with no structural damage.
No cracks.
There is wear but the only chips I can find are small and to the bottom edge of the base which is sound and stable - see photos
It has maker’s marks to the bottom interior of the bowl - see photos.
There are three drainage holes.
Comes in two parts with the bowl resting on the footed base.
Adjusts simply by tilting if required.
Numbered to the bowl interior -
