We got this from a reclamation dealer at Essoyes in the Champagne region and have used it variously as a planter, a drinks cooler with ice in it and a log bucket.
It’s a big, sturdy galvanised steel grape hod that dates to around the 1930s.
Used in the local champagne vineyards as backpack carriers during grape harvests, or vendanges, it still has the strap clips to the rear and could be wall mounted.
It would also paint up nicely if preferred, original painted ones being very valuable.
Worn but very sound and still watertight, it makes a great decorative interior or exterior piece…
*
In very good sound condition with staining and wear consistent with its age and use - please examine photos carefully for condition.
Well used and worn but strong, sound and watertight with no structural damage.
There is some surface rust to the interior but no corrosion or through perforation. I have filled this with water and there are no leaks.
The exterior galvanised surfaces are sound and show an attractive worn patina.
The base is worn but sound.
There are clip fittings to the rear where straps would have been fitted for carrying.
I can find no maker’s mark.
