Sisyrinchium striatum PLANTS & SEEDS. From the 'Very Special' collection from Touchwood

Hi, I'm Carrie Thomas of Touchwood, and I am crazy about plants and gardening. I grow many special, unusual and rare plants and will share seeds of some here as part of my 'Very Special Seeds' collection.

Sorry, there's no common name and Sisyrinchium striatum is rather a mouthful, isn't it? Luckily it's an attractive plant and very easy from seed. Although a 'monocot' like a bulb, it is unusual in that it flowers the year after it is sown... rather than up to 7 year later! So, quick and easy, and perennial so it flowers every year in your garden.

These plants will be about 60-80 cms tall in flower

WHY GROW THIS PLANT? Easy to grow and easy to please, mine seem to survive all conditions my gardens have thrown at it. Even out of flower it is good as it has pleasing iris-like leaves even in winter. The flowers are creamy & yellow, with many open at a time on each stem. Hint, the flowers close in the evening so this is a plant you'll have to enjoy during the day.... too bad if you're out working!!!!
