Adult Social Care Lawyer

Rate: £50-£60 per hour - Negotiable DOE

Contract Length: 3-6-month initial contract

Flexible Hybrid Working - Advocacy Required

Spencer Clarke Group are working with a Local Authority in the Southwest to recruit an experienced Adult Social Care Lawyer to join their friendly and supportive Legal Services team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled lawyer to manage a varied caseload of adult social care matters, including complex cases, and to provide expert legal advice to the council and its services.

Key Responsibilities

Manage a busy caseload of adult social care matters, including:

Mental Capacity Act and Court of Protection work

Adult Safeguarding

Ordinary residence disputes

Care and support funding issues

Judicial reviews and policy advice

Provide clear, timely legal advice to internal clients and senior officers.

Prepare applications, witness statements, and other documents for the Court of Protection and represent the council in hearings where appropriate.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, case law, and guidance, ensuring advice is accurate and compliant.

Essential Requirements

Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX Lawyer with a current practising certificate.

Proven experience handling adult social care legal work, ideally within local government.

Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and associated guidance.

Excellent drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.

Strong ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
