Description

A pair of portraits of Reverend Richard Dymocke Cawdor Cordeaux and his wife Margaret.

Richard Cordeaux was born 12 November 1834 to Reverend John and Elizabeth Cordeaux (previously Taylor of Tothill).
He married Margaret (Mrs Edward Kyme previously Edwards) in 1860 when he was 25. Margaret was born in 1826 in Runcorn, Cheshire. Richard Cordeaux died in 20 October 1888.

Richard’s elder brother John Cordeaux was one of the foremost English amateur naturalist and ornithologists of his day, known for his work with the British Association on bird migration.

Emily Eyres (C.1850 - C.1910) is a respected British artist especially known for her Impressionist work.

The paintings were both signed but are only visible now to the eye on the female portrait. Under specialist light inspection the signature on the male portrait may still be visible.
