Commercial artist Steve Forney's client list, it’s fair to say, is lengthy. Brands he illustrated for include beauty brand Estee Lauder, Hasbro Toys, Southwest Airlines, Coca Cola, Starbucks and posters for the Californian county of San Bernardino. Forney's speciality is creating art-deco inspired commercial art that emulates posters of the 1920s when advertising culture was getting into full swing.
Steve Forney has been creating vintage style art for over 15 years and for as long as he can remember, he's always been drawing. When he was young, Forney was so immersed in his drawings that he would ignore his mother's calls to come for dinner. This absorption in drawing has carried on throughout his life, so much so, that when he was studying at the University of California, he was often caught doodling in his notebook and hardly paid attention to his lectures. So it was amazing Forney graduated at all with a BA in Political Science in 1991!
Following his studies, Forney decided to pursue his artistic impulses and started doing freelance illustration work. Forney counts graphic designer Alex Steinwess, Italian futurist painter Fortunato Depero and the modern masters Giorgio Morandi and Picasso amongst his many influences.
Ranging from editorial work to national advertising campaigns, Steve Forney brings a passion for his craft from the initial concept to the final stages of the design. He enjoys collaborating with his clients and strives to create illustrations that exceed their expectations. Forney currently lives and works in Oakland, California.
