VINTAGE Diamante ART DECO Decorative Brooch ~ 1920s - 1940s.
Ledbury, Herefordshire
£15
Description
I am selling a large and substantial Diamante Brooch in a very decorative design.
The brooch is shaped like a torch, with a black torch base and diamante flames. The torch base is made of a hard, black, shiny material, that MAY be Bakelite. This was used in jewellery from the 1920s, and was seen as a new, glamorous product. It is triangular in shape, and slightly faceted, to give the torch 'depth'. Rising from this base are 5 diamante-studed columns, representing flames. The diamante is set in slightly yellow-coloured base metal, and the whole 'flame' arrangement has a warm yellowish colouration, when compared to other diamante pieces, which I think is deliberate. There is a brooch pin attached to the back of the metal flames and the torch.
The clip is 50 mm long, and has a maximum width, across the top of the 'flames', of about 37 mm.
The clip is genuinely old, NOT reproduction. I inherited it from an aunt, who was born in 1920. In that case, the clip may date from around 1935-1940, although it may have been my Grandmother’s, in which case it could date from the 1920s onwards. The style does suggest that it is from the mid 1930s.
The brooch perhaps needs slight cleaning. However, there is no bending or mis-shaping to the brooch, there is very little discolouration to the front of the brooch, and IMPORTANTLY, there is NO loss of diamante stones. This brooch is complete. The brooch pin is slightly loose.
There is no maker's mark. I am selling it, as seen.
Look CAREFULLY at my photos, which show the condition of the item, and form part of the description.
It can be collected from central Ledbury, or posted 2nd Class 48 hours tracked (at cost) for full coverage of it’s value.
Please note: this brooch also for sale on other platforms.
