Few cars embody postwar British motoring as perfectly as the charming Morris Minor, designed by Sir Alec Issigonis (who would later go on to create the Mini), and by the early 1950s it had become a staple of British roads. The 1953 Morris Minor sits in a fascinating middle period for the model, bridging the early “Series MM” cars and the later, more modern versions that would carry the Minor into the 1970s.
The 1953 Morris Minor wasn’t glamorous or fast, but it captured the spirit of its time perfectly, dependable, practical, and full of charm. More than 70 years later, it remains one of Britain’s most iconic cars and an important part of our motoring history.
Today, the Morris Minor is a cherished classic, with enthusiasts, clubs and specialists keeping parts and knowledge readily available … and cars on the road. It remains one of the most practical and useable classics to own, particularly of this era, and these ‘split screen’ models with their ‘cheese grater’ front grills, sitting at the start of the A-series era, are particularly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors who want an early yet usable example.
Last in regularly road use in 2015, it passed an MOT in October 2014 at 75,786 and DVLA records show that it had been regularly MOT’d since 2008.
Recently taken out of storage it has been subject to a mechanical recommission and its now ready for regular road use.
The file contains a few spares and trim parts, an original and rare Morris Minor Handbook, Owners Club literature,a Workshop Manual and the V5.
The condition, when you consider this is an unrestored 72 year car, is pretty good. The interior is completely charming with seats, door cards, dash and the correct banjo steering wheel presenting well. The bodywork is showing age related marks (please see photos and videos for detail) as you would expect, but perfectly useable as it is. The wheels and brightwork look smart and it is fitted with a external sun visor; a useable addition in the days before internal sun visors were commonly used.
It is running, driving & stopping well, and enjoyed a recent 10 mile journey with no reported issues, we must however point out that the handbrake appears not to be operational.
We think this is a super ‘use and improve’ example of a desirable split screen ‘Moggie’ that’s on the button and ready to be used and enjoyed as it is with scope for improvement if you wish.
