Description
By the early 1960s, North Western’s fleet of rebodied Bristol and Guy double deckers were reaching the end of the road and it was decided to order eighteen AEC Renowns and twenty Daimler Fleetlines.
The Renown was AEC’s second venture into low-floor double deck design which made boarding and alighting easier and, therefore, popular with passengers.
This splendidly detailed model has never been removed from its box (see photos of a specimen) and displays the logo of its new owner which had been applied, in real life, whilst the complete batch of vehicle awaited repainting in SELNEC’s orange and white livery when the North Western Road Car Company Ltd was split up and ceased PSV operations.
Fleet No 115, which would eventually be changed by SELNEC, displays Route No 125 for a journey from the long gone Lower Mosley Street Bus Station in Manchester to Old Glossop.
It also displays adverts for the 2010 Show Bus Exhibition at Duxford: thus making this model a sought after special issue.
