Description
This lot will be auctioned via Hampson Auctioneers, The Hampson Auctions Sale at Oulton Park on Sunday 27th July from 12noon, Little Budworth, Tarporley, CW6 9BW.
This 1974 MGB GT, offered at No Reserve, is finished in a wonderfully 1970s shade of purple, and is an eye-catching example of the sleek fastback GT. The vendor describes it as a really nice, low recorded mileage example that has been well loved by the current owner. Impressively, it has had just seven previous keepers, with the first to sixth keeping it for a 32-year period following its registration in October 1974. The vendor adds that ‘GOC180N’ was recorded as Category D write-off 25 years ago, back in 2000, but the car has also had a full restoration with comprehensive photographic evidence.
‘GOC180N’ has been fitted with a new alternator, brakes and fuel pump, while the engine has also been refurbished. The vendor adds it has also been converted so that it runs on regular unleaded petrol with no additive required. The 1.8-litre engine, four-speed manual transmission, electrics and the black vinyl interior are all described as being in ‘good’ condition. “This will make a really nice addition to someone’s collection,” says the vendor – with the added draw of being offered at No Reserve.
The MGB was revealed in 1962 and remained in production until 1980. The archetypal British classic sports car, well over half a million were produced, and support for the Abingdon-built model remains superb even today. The two-seat soft-top Roadster was the core model, while there was also this MG BGT 2+2 coupe, a six-cylinder MGC and eight-cylinder MG BGT V8. The model was continuously evolved during its lifetime, with key changes including a new dashboard in 1972 and the well-known ‘rubber bumpers’ in 1974. The MGB was later revived by Rover Group in 1992, using bodyshells from British Motor Heritage; the MG RV8 is a collectable in itself.
