Description
Looking for someone positive, confident to inspire your child?
Is your child taking the IB math exam in May 2026 or May 2027?
Start early with an experienced math tutor and a structured plan.
Meet Your Tutor
-----------------------
Hi, I’m Vivian, a math tutor with 20 years of experience helping students in IB and AP programs.
I hold an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, and spent over a decade as a Software Developer at IBM.
Teaching math has been my lifelong passion, and I specialize in helping students improve their math grades by 10 to 20%.
What Sets Me Apart
-----------------------
I bring 20 years of experience in both strong academic foundations and exam preparation for IB and AP.
I bring a structured and targeted approach with over 360 past exam questions (2006 to 2024) organized by topic, to help students master one area at a time.
Through topic-specific practice, this method leads to deeper understanding, stronger retention, and ultimately, better results.
My Teaching Approach
-----------------------
I focus on building strong fundamentals, confidence, and independence in my students through:
(1) Bringing the student up to speed on topics they have missed or not understood. I also connect the ideas of math to the broader world, so that there’s more to it than just memorizing and obeying unmotivated rules.
(2) Helping my students with their particular challenges, which may be nervousness in tests, keeping up in class, dealing with a tricky teacher, or making common mistakes under pressure. Finding solutions to these problems is just as important as understanding the math itself.
(3) Building confidence and independence. As my students gain knowledge of the basic concepts, I encourage them to figure out their approaches and gain confidence in their ability to solve problems without my instruction. I also teach enriched topics and introduce math contest questions throughout elementary and high school, fostering critical thinking, persistence, and success.
Boost Your Scores with Past Exam Questions, Topic by Topic
-----------------------
I set a goal for each student to complete at least 20 exam questions per week (the equivalent of 2 exam papers).
For those aiming for a 95%+ average, I recommend completing 30 or more questions (the equivalent of 3 exam papers) to maximize performance.
These questions are graded so students can see which areas need improvement before the actual exam day
Proven Success Stories
-----------------------
Harvard Acceptance Story #1
------------------------------------
A student from Havergal College began lessons with me in Year 5. Through consistent weekly 2-hour sessions, she accelerated her studies by three full years, ultimately earning acceptance to Harvard.
Harvard Acceptance Story #2
------------------------------------
Starting in Year 4, a student from University of Toronto Schools used my program to stay two years ahead in his studies. He consistently scored 97%+, and also earned admission to Harvard - my second student to do so.
How did this happen?
------------------------------------
These students practiced early. They developed strong habits: discipline, consistency and excellence - through years of focused work and advanced learning.
How does it compare to students who average 6 hours of instruction per week?
My focused 2-hour weekly program, beginning as early as Grade 3 or 4, gives students a meaningful advantage. They typically advance at least two academic years, setting them to a strong path toward elite university admissions.

Online Classes
-----------------------
Technology Requirements for Online Classes
-----------------------
Students must use a high-performance tablet with a stylus (e.g., iPad with Apple Pencil), along with a reliable high-speed internet connection to ensure smooth and effective lessons.
How Online Lessons Work
-----------------------
Students are required to use an iPad (the most reliable tool I've tested) with a fast, stable internet connection.
Before our lesson, I will email the student a link to an online whiteboard. This platform allows us to connect through voice, video, and real-time writing.
Both the student and I can write on the whiteboard simultaneously, just like sitting side-by-side at a desk. Students will actively learn by solving math problems on-screen, using their stylus, just as they would on paper.
This is the most efficient and interactive online teaching method I’ve adopted for years, combining clarity, engagement and strong results.
How to Get Started
-----------------------
I work with families who share a long-term vision for academic excellence and growth.
If this approach resonates with you, please reach out with your child’s current year, your name, and a contact number.
I usually respond within two business days.
