This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and dynamic port and logistics environment, playing a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient and effective coordination of daily port activities.

Working closely with the Head of Port Operations and Shipping Coordinator, the successful candidate will support vessel operations, resource planning, labour coordination and operational performance, ensuring activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with customer requirements.

We are keen to hear from individuals with a background in port operations, logistics, transport or similar operational environments who enjoy working in a fast–paced setting and have a proactive, hands–on approach to problem–solving.

The Role

As Port Coordinator, you will play an important role in supporting the day–to–day running of port operations, ensuring resources, equipment and personnel are effectively coordinated to meet operational demands.

You will work closely with internal teams, shipping agents, contractors and customers to ensure vessel loading and discharge activities are delivered efficiently, whilst maintaining high standards of safety, communication and customer service.

Key responsibilities will include:

Coordinating daily port operations, including vessel loading and discharge activities, berth allocation and operational planning. Supporting the effective allocation of labour, plant, equipment and other operational resources. Arranging agency labour and maintaining accurate manning reports, timesheets and associated records. Monitoring operational performance, identifying potential delays and implementing solutions to minimise disruption. Liaising with vessel crews, shipping agents, hauliers, contractors, customers and internal departments. Maintaining accurate operational documentation, including cargo records, KPIs, purchase requisitions and information required for invoicing. Supporting health and safety compliance through daily port inspections, audits and the reporting of potential hazards. Assisting with incident investigations, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with Engineering and Maintenance teams to ensure operational equipment remains available and fit for purpose. Coordinating the ordering and availability of lifting equipment, consumables, PPE and other operational supplies. Supporting cargo checks, quayside stock monitoring and the accurate recording of handling and storage charges. Providing weighbridge cover and additional operational support when required. Identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, resource utilisation and customer service.

About You

We are looking for a motivated, organised and commercially aware individual who thrives in a busy operational environment and takes pride in delivering high standards of service.

The ideal candidate will have:

Previous experience within port operations, shipping, logistics, transport or a similar operational environment. Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously. Experience coordinating labour, equipment or operational resources. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage with a wide range of stakeholders. A proactive approach to problem–solving and the ability to respond effectively to changing operational priorities. Strong attention to detail, particularly when maintaining operational records and documentation. Good IT and administrative skills, including experience with reporting systems and Microsoft Office. A strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements. Commercial awareness and an understanding of the importance of operational efficiency and cost control. The ability to work independently whilst contributing positively to a wider operational team. Desirable experience:

Previous experience working within a port, terminal or cargo–handling environment. Knowledge of vessel loading and discharge operations. Experience coordinating agency labour, contractors or plant and equipment. Familiarity with cargo documentation, operational KPIs and invoicing processes. Understanding of lifting operations, quayside activities or weighbridge procedures. Above all, we are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic team player who can take ownership of their responsibilities, communicate effectively and contribute to the safe and efficient running of port operations.
