Sliding Head Turner – Weekends Only (Nuneaton)

£20.00 per hour | 36 hrs/week | Fri–Sun, 06:00–18:00

What if your next job gave you three days’ work and four days off every week?

We’re looking for a weekend warrior of the machining world – someone who can take the reins of a Citizen sliding head lathe in Nuneaton, keep it purring, and smash through a backlog of parts.

This isn’t just pressing a green button. You’ll be setting, operating, and owning this machine from start to finish. Due to the shifts, most of the time you’ll be flying solo, so if something goes wrong such as the bar feed stops, tooling chips out, offsets drift, you’ll need to know how to fix it and get the cycle running again without waiting for backup.

Why? Because there’s a mountain of work. 6,500 identical components. This lathe needs to be running flat out until we hit the finish line.

The gig:

Operate & set a Citizen sliding head lathe

Handle tool changes, bar changes, and minor program edits

Problem solve on the fly and keep production running

Work Fri, Sat & Sun – 06:00–18:00 (36 hours total) – flexibility can be given

£20 per hour hour – paid weekly

Temp role – ongoing until the backlog’s cleared

You’ll need:

Proven sliding head turning experience (Citizen preferred)

Confidence to work solo on weekend shifts

Knowledge of tooling, offsets, and basic G/M code tweaks

A quality first mindset, because scrap doesn’t help anyone

If you can walk in on a Saturday morning, spot that the bar feeder’s thrown a wobbly, reload it, reset, and have the spindle humming again before your coffee goes cold, this is your kind of weekend job.
